It’s a call to embrace Love as a unifying force, to lead with kindness, and to recognize our social responsibility in every role we play. This book is foundational, offering a fresh perspective on leadership that integrates the power of AI to enhance empathy and understanding.
As we navigate our roles in society, whether in non-profits, corporations, or our own homes, Leading with Love provides the practical guidance needed to foster a culture of compassion, inclusivity, and emotional intelligence. It’s a transformative approach that transcends traditional leadership methods, urging us to cultivate interconnectedness and collaboration.
This isn’t just a guide; it’s a journey to the heart of leadership, urging us to harness AI for good and to lead with intention in an AI-driven world. Delaney’s vision is clear: to redefine leadership and create a meaningful impact, making Leading with Love an essential read for those ready to make a difference with a loving touch in today’s interconnected world.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the beautiful truths discussed in this book.
A personal note from the author
This book represents the flow of my life. The authenticity, vulnerability, and nakedness, and how that has nurtured the relationships that I have come to saver.
We are the world.
I, Connie the nurse, can transform health care and change the world. I cannot do it alone. Everything I am and everything I have is a product of something much bigger. It is “WE” that will change the world, and it is WE who will lead with love and encourage more people to become nurses —nurses that lead with love. There is a higher purpose beyond myself in this world, and my aim is to be a part of that purpose, part of the solution, part of the love. I hope that in reading my stories, you find some hope and commit in your life to lead with love.
I Am, We Are

Leading With Love: Important Principles
In writing Leading With Love, Connie Delaney has become so much more than another nurse with a short story or book. She has shared some essential principles that help other professionals, laypeople, and gentle lovers of humanity to learn the principles required when leading with love. A few of these foundational principles include the following:
- Intentionality – If you wish to see the successful culmination of kindness in leadership, then you need to decide to practice intent in every part of your life. This isn’t only true in terms of leadership but in every aspect of daily life. In the end, love and kindness are both things we choose, not things that happen to us.
- Mindfulness over money – As any type of leader, money usually becomes a factor somewhere along the line. However, the truth is that money is only ever a tool. When it becomes the sole focus of any organization, it tends to have the opposite of the desired effect. Kindness in leadership is born of mindfulness rather than a money-centered mindset.
- Innovation – While rules are an excellent tool that can be incredibly useful for running an organization that operates well, they’re only tools. Strict adherence to rules without any room for innovation can sometimes lead to a system that lacks kindness and love.
- Transparency – In a world full of public relations, press releases, and putting a spin on things, transparency is essential. As a leader especially, the ability to transparently interact with those you are leading is an essential aspect of leading with love.
Leading With Love: Practical Application
The true value of a book like this one lies not in the theoretical or conceptual value but in the practical application of the concepts discussed. As the author herself states, “I hope you don’t read the book and put it away on a shelf. It’s also not meant to be put on a pedestal and marveled at. We want it to be used.”
The intent behind this book has always been to interact with the unique story and background of each individual reader and to help them discover practical ways to practice kindness in leadership.
Here are a few of the practical lessons from the book that you can apply in your day-to-day life:
- Be intentional about progress. Forward motion, or a state of flow, is essential if you want to make progress (even when leading with love). Immerse yourself fully in the task at hand or your interaction with the person in front of you.
- Give yourself the room to question things. Understanding principles is a critical part of knowing when and how to make changes to existing processes.
- Practice flexibility. Stubbornness and pride will never give you the resilience you need to sway before the prevailing winds, but humility and flexibility allow you to weather the storm, even while practicing kindness in leadership.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help; Some of the best progress you can make as a leader happens when you admit that you aren’t the best at everything. Sometimes, the help you ask for is what your organization needs to move forward.
- Community is important. Everything you do as a leader should revolve around the organization as a whole rather than specific individuals in the organization.
- Ask questions, and be willing to listen. A willingness to listen is one of the foundation aspects of learning to lead with love. Only by learning to listen without judgment and respond deliberately can you learn to reach the hearts and minds of those you are leading.
- Prioritize openness and transparency. As a leader, few things can build mistrust as much as secrets and opacity. Have open, forthright conversations with people.
Leading With Love: The Digital Twin
After writing the book, Connie White Delaney and her co-creator Shelagh Klein started work on a digital twin. As stated, Leading With Love: A Nurse’s Story was always intended to be of practical assistance to leaders everywhere.
Unfortunately, it simply isn’t practical for the author to answer questions and offer guidance personally to each of her readers. The time constraints alone make this concept prohibitive, as do other practical concepts.
To compensate, the author and her team turned to artificial intelligence. Together with her team, Connie has created a digital twin programmed to think and reason as closely as possible to the author herself.
Readers can start a conversation with the digital twin right here on the website and receive input, feedback, and answers to questions as though speaking directly to the author.
